This girl has been a delight for so many reasons.
She had a rough start - at approximately 3 months of
age she developed a horrible inner ear infection.  Her
temp soared up to 105 and I was given little hope she would survive.  After being on IV antibiotics and fluids
for a day she perked up considerably and started eating again.  Once she recovered from this scare, my wonderful vet, Dr. Benson, had to resect a portion of the inner ear canal,  lasering out the bad tissue and cleaning all the way down to get the root of the infection cleared.

Poor Runner lived in a crate in an E-collar for 6 weeks during her recovery from the surgery.

She never stopped purring the entire time.  I'd open her crate to medicate her, feed her, clean her ear and she'd crawl up into my arms purring and rubbing and loving on me.

An unfortunate after-effect of the extensive surgery to her inner ear, Runner now has a slight head tilt (Vestibular syndrome) and some minor paralysis to the right side of her face.  Oddly, it seems to work for her, giving her a bit of a jaunty air and inquisitive look, both qualities which are very much a part of her personality!

She was named partly in honor of her darling grandmother, Bacardi, who passed away shortly after this litter was born.  Bacardi was also a silver mac patch girl, and I can see a strong resemblance in Runner.  The Runner part is all HER - she is always on the go, even when she had her brief spurts of freedom from the crate while wearing that stupid e-collar she'd go dashing about, climbing up the cat tree - I had to watch her carefully for fear she'd break her fool neck!

This amazing girl grew on me more and more.  I didn't think she'd be a good candidate for motherhood, but I was assured that the infection wasn't in any way a genetic thing and the physiological after-effects of the surgery wouldn't impede or discommode her in any fashion regarding pregnancy, queening or motherhood.  She has had two very beautiful litters and I'm keeping one of her daughters to carry on the legacy.  Obviously she'll never be in a show, but the living room is her stage and any visitor to the house is her unwitting audience.  Like her very outgoing father (BB) she's never met a stranger, and her endless curiosity keeps me endlessly entertained.

Uh, she also has a fascination for footwear...
